Elton John and Billy Joel Concert Review

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Being a baby boomer, Elton John and Billy Joel are among some of my favorite entertainers of all time. When they came to my hometown recently, I told my husband, "We have to go!" He didn't complain as May is our anniversary month plus we rarely go out and this was for a very special reason.

These two guys are absolutely phenomenal. They know how to keep the audience entertained and put on a show to remember. It's hard to believe that both Elton John and Billy Joel are in their 60's with the energy they have during the performance.

The show began with the two of them singing "Your Song" seated literally Face 2 Face on stage. The aging audience was really getting into the song and began to sing along. Another song performed was "Funeral for a Friend" which Elton John sung with perfection. Other favorite songs heard during the evening included "Crocodile Rock," "Tiny Dancer," and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting."

After the two of them began performing together "Face 2 Face" each one did their own set of music and then they rejoined again at the end of the evening.

Billy Joel was actually comical throughout the evening while he performed many of his "favorite hits" of all time. Some songs that Billy Joel performed were "We Didn't Start the Fire," and "River of Dreams." He was constantly moving around while he was playing the piano appearing full of life and energy. However, Elton John was much more serious while performing his set of songs.

Fans have commented that Elton John's voice may have aged slightly, but Billy Joel sounds exactly the same. At the end of the evening the two superstars came together again with a nine song finish. The last two songs of the evening were "Candle in the Wind" and "Piano Man."

Elton John and Billy Joel Kick off Concert Tour in Jacksonville

Saturday, March 7, 2009
The much awaited Elton John and Billy Joel's Face to Face tour kicked off its 2009 gig to a crowded house in Jacksonville. These two legendary performers will continue to pack the fans into any venue worldwide, no matter how bad the economy gets.

The first night of their incredibly popular co-headlining tour ended up to be over three hours long. Interestingly, the youngest song of the night was Billy Joel's "River of Dreams" from 1993.

Joel joked with the crowd saying, "Speaking of unemployment, we're just happy you're keeping us in business. We're happy to have a job."

Considering these guys made $45.8 million during their last tour together in 2003, they shouldn't have any financial worries!!

Many of the booked venues for their 2009 tour are configured in 360 degrees, which ends up boosting seating capacity. The pair also said this particular tour will probably keep adding dates here and there and may go on for as much as two years.

Elton John Adds 3 Solo Dates in April

Monday, March 2, 2009
Elton John has announced 3 solo dates which will occur after the first segment of his "Face 2 Face" shows with fellow pianist, Billy Joel. These shows will be squeezed in before he begins the final days of his very successful and long running Red Piano gig in Las Vegas.

His planned solo dates are:

Rapid City, SD on April 1(4/1)
Laramie, WY on April 3 (4/3)
Colorado Springs, CO on April 4 (4/4)

Elton John Tickets at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, Rapid City

An interesting bit of trivia is that his Red Piano show was originally supposed to be 75 shows, however, it grew to a whopping 241 performances. (from Live Daily and Elton John's website)

This guy will continue to bring the crowds in around the world. What I'd love to know is where does he get his energy considering he's 61 and will turn 62 in less than a month on March 25, 2009.
